Mary Ann Pallister was the tenth child of Robert Pallister & Rachael Blakey born April-June 1865 at Tynemouth, Northumberland.
Mary Ann was living at home in 1871, 1 Country View, Cambois, Morpeth, Northumberland with her parents & older brother William & sister Isabella.
By 1881 Mary Ann’s father had died & she & her sister Rachel were both living with her father’s cousin, Joanna Pallister [p.1.6.3.9.1], now married to Peter Burn Davison, a publican. They were living at Catherine St, Whitworth, Spennymoor, Co Durham & Mary was working as a barmaid. Mary Ann’s mother was still living near Morpeth with son William, a coal miner.
Mary Ann married John Dixon January 7th, 1884 at St Andrew’s, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. John was born c1857 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, the son of Eleanor and Robert Dixon, a blacksmith.
In 1891 Mary Ann & John were living at 34 Edgar St, Hedworth Monkton & Jarrow, Northumberland & John was working as a riveter. They had 3 children by this time – Eleanor Elliott (6), Rachel (4) & Robert Pallister (2).
Mary Ann died on May 23rd, 1897 at 34 Edgar St, Jarrow.
In 1901 widowed John was living with his sister Christiana & her husband Joseph Chatt, a shipyard worker, at 41 Dee St, Jarrow. John was still working as a riveter & with him were children Robert P & a daughter Wilhelmina (5). Daughters Eleanor & Rachel were both working as domestic servants for Joseph Fellows & his family, a publican at the Rose & Crown Inn, Ryton Woodside, Co Durham.
Daughter Eleanor was to marry Philip Robson, a coal miner, in July-September 1903 at Gateshead, Co Durham & daughter Rachel married Frank Horwood, a ship plate riveter, in April-June 1907 at South Shields. Son Robert married Ethel Tallack in October-December 1908 at South Shields.
In 1911 John was living at a lodging house in Jarrow, 32,34,36 Stanley Street. He was still a riveter at the shipyard.
